What Is the Refuge Vow? [online]

with Charlotte Linde

June 9th

Date details +
In preparation for this June’s vows ceremonies with preceptor Gaylon Ferguson, this online class will be an opportunity to explore the meaning of the refuge vow, and to allow discussion of participants’ questions, and how the vow may relate to their individual situations.

Brought to you by the Northern California Shambhala Center

    Topics will include:

    • What is a vow?
    • Why do we take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma and the Sangha?
    • What is the nature of the commitment?
    • Individual questions that participants may have.

This class is open to anyone: people intending to take refuge, people who are curious about the refuge vow, and people who have already taken the refuge vow and would like to go deeper into its meaning.

    Suggested preparation

    • Being Buddhist: Exploring the Refuge Vow, a three-part, two-hour class with Gaylon Ferguson which began April 6. If you registered after this Shambhala Online class began, you will be able to view the video of the classes.
    • The Heart of the Buddha, a book by Chögyam Trungpa, particularly chapter 5, “Taking Refuge.”
