Are you looking for community amidst the challenging times in which we’re living? Are you interested in learning more about how to go beyond the cushion with your commitment to liberation for yourself and others?

Join us this February, Black History Month, as we digest Lama Rod Owens’ latest book, The New Saints. Lama Rod, who describes himself as a “Black Buddhist Southern Queen”, offers a secular notion of a bodhisattva, which he calls a "new saint”:

Our era calls for saints who are from this time and place, who speak the language of this moment, and who integrate both social and spiritual liberation. I believe we all can and must become New Saints.

Discover insights and techniques to ignite your inner fierceness and compassion; create a sustainable spiritual practice that serves others and the planet; and embody the virtues of a New Saint.

Together over 6 sessions, we will read and discuss Lama Rod’s call to become “a spiritual warrior—a human refreshed, serving a vision of a world shaped by love.” All are welcome - those more familiar with Shambhala’s focus on spiritual warriorship and meditation in action, along with anyone from any other spiritual or faith background (including agnostics/atheists). Prior Buddhist training or exposure is not necessary.

This is a hybrid program with both in-person and online participation and will be facilitated by Seattle Shambhala members, Chuy Garcia and Veronica Borgonovi.
