Through the practice of meditation, we begin to glimpse that goodness, rather than confusion, is the unconditional ground of our existence. As People of Color, this fundamental ground is challenged on a daily basis in several spheres of our existence.  This practice will offer opportunities through combining meditation and the arts to continually access that goodness in the face of racial oppressions with gentleness and appreciation.

Weekend Warrior Training I is the first weekend retreat of the Way of Shambhala path of training. This two-day warrior training for People of Color introduces the practice of meditation and the basic principles of the Shambhala teachings. The retreat includes meditation instruction and practice, talks, group discussion, and individual interviews, and is appropriate for both new and more experienced meditators.

Toward the end of the program, you will have the opportunity to show your gratitude to the teacher by offering a heart gift. In Shambhala and other wisdom cultures, heart gifts are offered to those who, both visibly and invisibly, have made receiving these precious teachings possible. The heart gift is purely optional and based on personal inspiration and gratitude. Often, the heart gift is monetary. The amount is not important, just your inspiration to give, connect, and explore the cycles of generosity and offering. Other gestures of gratitude and appreciation are welcomed as well.

Prerequisites: This program is open to those who identify as people of color. No previous experience with meditation is necessary.

Location: Seattle Shambhala Center, 3107 E Harrison Street, Seattle

Our Generosity Policy: We have a generosity policy to make our offerings available to all who wish to participate. If the program price is an obstacle for you, please consider what works for you, and offer as much of the program fee as you can. For those who can offer more than the program price, we have a "patron price". Your generosity in offering the patron price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price.

Registration: When registering, you'll have the opportunity to pay online through PayPal (or by credit card), which greatly simplifies the process for us. For further details, see our Program Policies and FAQs page.
