Shambhala Day Celebration - Year of the Water Snake
Cheerful Shambhala Day!
Shambhala Day is the first day of the new year of the Water Snake. One of the most important traditions in Shambhala Buddhism, it is based on the traditional Tibetan New Year's celebration of Losar.
Shambhala Day is a time to celebrate our community and our connection. As is tradition, the Sakyong will address the global Shambhala community live from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Then, President Reoch will remind us of the vital role we play in supporting teachers and staff at the center of the mandala. They create the classes, chants, liturgies and online programs we use throughout the year. Your donation or pledge to Shambhala International will be collected in the shrine room. If you donate online beforehand, feel free to bring a printout of your donation.
We'll enjoy lunch together in the community room, provided by the Shambhala Center. No need to bring anything.
After lunch there will be a showing of the documentary, An Uncommon King, about the life of the Sakyong, and following the film there will be a lung, or reading transmission, for the Sakyong's Treatise on Enlightened Society, for those who have not yet received this and those who would like to hear it again.
There will also be a sale of Maruca Design hand bags in the afternoon. All the proceeds will go to the Shambhala Center.
