Alan Ness grew up in the eastern suburbs of Cleveland Ohio. For the first Earth Day in 1970 he organized a program for all 3000 students at his public high school.
He attended Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts for his undergraduate degree, and the Boston Architectural College for his professional degree in Architecture. He opened his own firm in 1990 in Seattle, specializing in residential remodeling with a green touch. After 30 years he retired. He was a member of the NW Ecobuilding Guild for over 25 years.
He lives in Seattle with his wife. His adult daughter and son also live in town. Alan enjoys birdwatching and nature. He is a longtime meditator with the Shambhala Center, where he teaches classes and guides meditation students. He attended the 1983 Seminary in Bedford Springs, PA.
