Children's Blessing Ceremony

with Acharya Richard John

May 4th (2018)

Date details +

Raising our children to know their own basic goodness, and that of others, is the very cornerstone of a good human society. This brief and simple blessing ceremony, open to all children, infants up to age 12, offers children and parents an experience of their own wakefulness in an inspiring and playful setting. This event is also an opportunity to enjoy and make a connection with a visiting Acharya, a senior Shambhala teacher appointed by the Sakyong.

Everyone is welcome to come whether you have young children or not. This is a great opportunity for the larger sangha to support families with young children. A reception will follow the blessing at about 6:45.

An early student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Acharya Richard John was appointed an acharya by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. Acharya John has taught Shambhala Buddhist programs for many years in North America, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico and Chile. After careers as a designer and a management consultant, he served as director of the Halifax Shambhala Center. He completed the first three-year group retreat at Gampo Abbey and now teaches full time. Richard and his wife Liz reside in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Fee: This event is free of charge, but it is customary when receiving a blessing to offer a voluntary heart gift to the teacher.

Prerequisites: None. The blessing is open to children up to age 12, and everyone is very welcome and encouraged to attend.

Location: Seattle Shambhala Center, 3107 E Harrison St, Seattle.
