Shamatha Weekthun
The Four Immeasurables and Enlightened Society

with Shastris Ben Hines and John Fox.

The Four Immeasurables are a means for cultivating "the mind of compassion." This mind is the ideal of the warrior-bodhisattva and the mind of the citizen of an Enlightened Society. The teaching of the Four Immeasurables is both a traditional teaching and teaching essential for our time. This is a communal week of practice and study with the sense of how good life can be when lived with a sense of celebration and wakefulness.

The Four Immeasurables
May all beings enjoy happiness and the root of happiness.
May they be free from suffering and the root of suffering.
May they not be separated from the great happiness devoid of suffering.
May they dwell in the great equanimity free from passion, aggression and ignorance.

The program, to be held at the Seattle Shambhala Center, will include sitting and walking meditation, talks, individual interviews, mindful eating and work periods. Open to everyone.

This program fulfills the weekthun requirement for Enlightened Society assembly. Priority is given to full-time participants, but partial attendance may be possible, depending on enrollment. We encourage staying at the Seattle Shambhala Center in the shrine room or, weather permitting, in a tent. You may also commute to the weekthun if you prefer.

Prerequisites: This program is open to everyone.

Location: Seattle Shambhala Center, 3107 E Harrison St, Seattle
