Enlightened Society as Sacred Mandala
with Acharya Richard John
The Vidyadhara proclaimed that the hallmark of his teaching is the inseparability of the worldly and the sacred. As Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche unfolds the Shambhala path, we are beginning to discover the great depth of this teaching. The “seed syllable” for one’s individual path is basic goodness, and the “seed syllable” for humanity is enlightened society. These truths can be understood by anyone, but for vajrayana practitioners the challenge is immediate: We must actually realize that basic goodness is the core wisdom of our highest teachings—mahamudra and dzogchen—and that enlightened society is the ultimate sacred mandala.
We will spend the day practicing and discussing these themes, and complete the day with a Werma Feast open to all Shambhala tantrikas. Lunch will be included and the Werma Feast begins at 5:30, with setup beginning at 5:00 PM.
